Description: The breast medal is a circle with a diameter of 32 mm. The obverse is slightly depressed and depicts the convex outline of a crane. The prototype was based on paper cranes made by a little Japanese girl who was injured in the bombing of Hiroshima, which represents a return to life. The reverse of the medal depicts an eight-pointed sharp-needle star, vaguely similar to a compass rose and personifying the eight republics of the USSR that participated directly in the construction of the city. The names of all these republics are written in a circle. The edge of the medal is smooth. The ear of the medal is solid. The metal block is covered with red enamel, below the background, the inscription Slavutych is filled with enamel. The arrangement of the obverse and reverse is medal-like. This medal was developed as a state award and its shape and size fully corresponded to the USSR State Prize Medal. I present to your attention the Medal of the city of Slavutych, the city in which I personally live. I will briefly tell you about him: Slavutych got its name from the Old Slavic name of the Dnipro river. The city was built in the period from 1986 to 1988, in less than 2 years. Construction began immediately after the accident at the Chernobyl NPP to provide housing for those who worked at the Chernobyl NPP and their families. They were evacuated from the city of Pripyat.. The economic and social situation of the city is still heavily influenced by the power plant and other Chernobyl zone installations. Many of the residents still work in the energy industry in the region. Architects and builders from eight union republics took part in the construction of the city: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine and Russia, which added a national flavor to the development of each city-planning quarter. The item is taken from a private collection.
