Description: Free worldwide postage on this item !!! Item. Fine Chamba Guardian Figure. Very Old, Used Example. Fine Patina. 65cm. Nigeria. Origin. The Chamba people of Nigeria who are a significant ethnic group living in the North-Eastern region of Nigeria. The closest Neigbours of the Chamba are the Mumuye Jukun and Kutep people. This is why the work of art of the ethnic groups mentions have striking similarities. Use. Chamba Guardian Spirit are rare because they are utilitarian rather than ceremonial items. They placed at the entrance of a Village to ward off evil spirit and malevolent influences. Description. A stunning creation that is genuinely very old, well-used and aesthetically appealing. Most eye-catching is the beautiful and unique patination of the Chamba figure which has a fair wood hue with a subdued sheen. The Chamba figure is crafted from the Iroko tree that produces very dense, durable and rich wood. Dye retention of the surface is high and tends to produce the most attractive patination over time applicable to this example. The durability of wood used helps the guardian figure's primary outdoor use. This example is vetted as authentic, used and old. Likely over six decades and perhaps much older. Facial features are understated and merge to create a serene look. There is a brass ring around the neck of the Chamba figure that is significant because it defines the community the Guardian figure protects. Form, balance and symmetry is commendable with an abstract and deliberately austere style. Good evidence of age, use and natural wear. Extensive wear and degradation of surface wood but figure is structurally very solid, heavy and in good collector condition. A special, rare and collectible tribal artefact that will be a fine complement to any collection. Measurement. 65cm high x 13cm wide x 16cm deep Weight. 6kg approx. Delivery information.
