Description: Very nice crystals of Chalcocite from an older, extremely hard to encounter locality. The Kambove mine was active in the DR Republic(then called Zaire), in Katanga, before and during Mobutu Rule, going back to the 1950's, and even earlier I believe, but ultimately abandoned in 1980. Copper mineral specimens coming out of this mine occasionally will show up in Belgium, but Chalcocite is almost unheard of. This is from the old collection of Wim Klein, a noted mineral collector and dealer in The Netherlands, who unfortunately passed away last year. He left behind an eclectic collection with many specimens from older and hard to find localities This specimen is 3 1/4 oz in weight, or 94 grams. The size is 2inch x 1.2 inch x 1.5 inch. The crystals appear blackish, however, the side crystals do show some purplish iridescence. Please be advised, I ship with ground Advantage.
