ABOUT THIS PATTERNThe 11 pattern has been a long time part of Case history with early Stag handled models dating back to the Case Brothers Little Valley era. At times the new collector may be confused when it comes to this pattern as Case also produced another pattern using the number 11, and it would be the single blade Hawkbill, but that pattern number would begin with a zero, 011. Once both knives are viewed, the difference is immediately clear and ingrained in the memory. Like many other knives the Cheetah has gone by a number of names; Swing Guard Lockback, English Jack, Floating Guard Knife, but Cheetah seems to be the name that sticks. This Cheetah is a product of the 1920-1939 Case Tested era and as such was offered with either a Flat ground blade or a Saber Ground Blade (SAB), such as ours. Surprisingly, during the Tested era, only 2 handle materials were offered regardless of the blade options, and they would be either Yellow Composition or Green Bone, nothing more. For many years the Cheetah claimed its position in the lineup as being the only Flat Ground single blade knife to boast a backspring lock which in turn was sufficient reason to label it as a very early Lockback Knife. Its also interesting to note that the early models were made without a swing guard while newer Cheetahs were built both with and without the guard. Regrettably the Cheetah was discontinued during the early 1980s, but like many popular discontinued patterns it was brought back in later years as a full size Cheetah along with its offspring, the smaller Cheetah Cub. DESCRIPTIONThe Tested 4-3/8-inch vintage Cheetah is rarely seen on this platform or any other for that matter. I have had this piece in my collection for 36 years, it has been used, sharpened and professionally cleaned prior to my ownership. The impressive long and slender Clip master blade locks up nicely in the open position albeit there is wobble present, but not sufficient to keep anything from working as it should. Closing snap is very good and the locking mechanism works exactly as intended. Its hard to believe these old Original Green Bone handles are in this outstanding condition, showing very little wear and positively no chips, cracks or other imperfections. The old Case Bomb shield is in excellent shape with all letters clean and clearly visible. Both bolsters and backspring are in outstanding condition and without issue as well. These truly grand old Cheetah knives have gotten very difficult to find, in any condition. Just this one to offer. Thanks and stay sharp!
