As an Afro-descendant, Guillén framed his work in negrismo and in the processes of miscegenation and transculturation, which he called the "Cuban color". Winner of Cuba's National Literature Prize, he is considered Cuba's national poet. The artist is Juan David-Posada (Cienfuegos, April 25, 1911 - Havana, August 8, 1981). An important figure of the Cuban plastic arts who made personal caricature his main mode of expression. He received a careful family education from his French father (Eduardo David) and his Asturian mother (Trinidad María Posada). He acquired the habit of reading, which accompanied him throughout his life and endowed him with a broad and solid culture. His youth was spent in times when most artists were self-taught, studying where they could and how they could, rummaging through old books, leafing through magazines, looking at reproductions of works by great masters.
