He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950’s. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980’s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: CAPTAIN MARVEL ADVENTURES Feb. 1951 Vol. 20 No.117 “Mr. Tawny Seeks Happiness” First impression: Several minor to moderate flaws. Average old comic. Degree of gloss: Moderate gloss, nice, even reflection. Condition of cover: There is a stain to the right of the post the Mr. Tawny is tied to. There is a slight crease from the second “a” in “Captain” down through the “r” in “Marvel”. The bottom edge of the book is pretty good. The top edge is worn along the overhang and the right edge has some fingerprinting and reading stresses. Corners: The bottom right corner is folded over and creased. The other corners show light wear. Spine and staples: The staples are nicely centered and are clean and tight. The top staple has some minor wear and the bottom staple is popped. The book is flat and there is no spine roll. There are a few stress marks but the spine is in really good condition. Original staples: Yes. Interior staples: TIght and centered, shiny. Paper color and condition: Uniformly tan, starting to feel slightly stiff and gritty, but still supple. Smell: Musty old comic. Interior condition: There is some damage at the bottom of the last few pages that starts with a small piece out of the bottom of the back cover. There is a small stain in the margin at the top of one page. There is a tear in the margin and slightly into one panel on a page edge near the back of the book. There is a stain spot or some sort of fading or bleaching on the bottom of one page near the front. The first two pages have folded corners. If I had to give it a grade: 4.5 Very Good+ I am not a professional comic book grader, but I have done my best to describe and photograph the comic being offered in this listing. Thanks for looking and have a beautiful day.
