Description: Maker: One of the great porcelain manufacturers at the turn of the last century, William Guerin (W.G. & Co.) produced exquisite wares in Limoges and its history reflects that high quality. Guerin was initially a standalone company but merged with the iconic firm Jean Pouyat just before World War 1. Shortly after the war ended, the combined company became part of the renowned Limoges firm Bawo & Dotter (Elite Works), which continued to use the Guerin mark. Source: third edition of the Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frances Gaston. Age: This elegant chocolate cup and saucer set has the green Guerin mark number 2 that was in use from sometime before 1891 to 1900. Design: The fine porcelain set is richly embellished with raised sprays of gold leaves against a backdrop of pale yellow. The cup's interior and the back of the saucer are pale pink. The handle is in the form of gold accented flowers. Size: The cup is 1 7/8 inches wide and 2 7/8 inches tall. The saucer is 4 1/4 inches wide. Together they weigh 3.9 ounces. Condition: There is light wear to the gold edges on both pieces. The saucer is in excellent condition with no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, discoloration, fading, repairs, crazing or significant wear. The cup handle has been broken and repaired - that's shown in the photos with the red arrows and it accounts for the low price. Despite the repair, this lovely set would be a beautiful display item on its own or as part of any collection of fine porcelain. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
