Description: A genuine antique town plan of Lewes in Sussex, a small but detailed map that formed part of a page taken from Samuel Lewis's "A Topographical Dictionary of England." Lewis's Dictionary was first issued in 1831, with editions to 1849. I don't know from which edition this page comes, but it shows in some detail what the areas looked like in early Victorian times. The map was drawn by Richard Creighton, and engraved by J&C Walker. With enough detail to show things like the 'Paper Mill' along the banks of the Ouse river, and the mills at Malling and Kingstone. I am selling more sheets relating to London and the south-east from this important Dictionary on ebay this week. Please see my other items. Size: the sheet measures approx. 12cms x 10cmsCondition: In a good condition, with original border handcolour. Small loss in the margin bottom left. Please study my photographs.
