C. F. Monroe Wave Crest 7.5" Dresser Box, Lattice & Swirl Mold, Signed

Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a large Wave Crest Art Glass dresser box made by the C. F. Monroe Co., c. 1900. This beautiful box features a soft pale blue colored base with an ornate mold design on top with pale blue overspray around the molded pattern and with hand painted pink flowers in the center. The top and base have decorative brass bands with a tight hinge and the box opens and closes correctly although the front clasp is missing. The box has its original gray-blue silk lining and is marked with the Wave Crest trademark on the base. Measures 7 1/2" in diameter and is 3 1/2" high. Weighs 2.5 pounds. This nice Wave Crest dresser box is in very good to excellent Estate condition with the only noted flaw being the missing front clasp. There is also faint wear/tarnish to the patina of the brass bands and the silk lining is faded and shows signs of normal wear. This is a larger box than is normally found and it makes a lovely display. Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then hand decorated. Originally called "Opal Ware", this glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists.
