Description: Decorative leather photo album of Yale University students. Inscribed “H.G.S. 1868” on front board. Album produced by Altemus in Philadelphia. Approximately 6” x 5.25”. Overall good. Rubbing and wear to album, with some cracking and splitting to exterior hinges and binding on spine. Occasional wear to binding within album. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Clasps remain intact and in good condition. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce album, dated to approximately 1868 and appears to include members of the Yale Class of 1872. Notable members of the class include Benjamin Hoppin (1851-1923 - signed photograph attached), who joined 3 trips to the Arctic and wrote and published a diary as a member of the Peary Arctic Expedition of 1896, along with Theodore Salisbury Woolsey (1852-1929), a legal scholar, longterm professor of public law at Yale, and a founder of the Yale Review. All signed CDVs have been photographed above. Includes a total of 49 images: 39 CDVs (including 2 of women), 8 tintypes, and 2 CDVs including a group photo and another one of what is now the Alumni Hall. A one-of-a-kind look at a student’s life and circle of friends at Yale.
