Description: c.1922 Exceptional 13" Bye-Lo BabyBisque Head / Cloth "Frog" Body In Lovely Christening OutfitComes with Props as Pictured - Wicker Chair, Blanket, and Rattle [ FEATURES AND DETAILS... ] Marked on Back of Neck: "Copr. by Grace S. Putnam / Made in Germany"Early Stamped Body (faint): "BYE-LO BABY / Pat. Appl'd. For / Copr. by Grace Storey Putnam" This is a bisque-head Bye-Lo Baby, c.1922, on a cloth "frog" body with an early stamp. The doll was designed by American artist Grace Storey Putnam, and the bisque heads were commissioned to J.D. Kestner, Kling, and Hertel Schwab, all based in Germany. He has excellent makeup and tiny blue sleep eyes that will melt your heart. Included with your doll is an antique (or vintage) rocking chair made of wood, rattan, and reed, that suits him perfectly. Also a blue rattle and a gorgeous vintage blue-and-white flannel doll blanket with little teddy bears and ducks at play. He is wearing a lovely antique white cotton christening gown and complementary bonnet (which may be original Bye-Lo Baby pieces, though not original to this doll). The bonnet has been refreshed with a replacement ribbon tie of antique white silk and a blue silk-ribbon bow. The gown has a lovely added silk ribbon flower at the neck and generous blue silk-ribbon accents. Underneath, he is wearing an antique white cotton full slip with beautiful scalloped edges and embroidered floral accents, and with four mother-of-pearl buttons at the shoulders. He is also fitted with a diaper of antique cotton muslin and blue-and-white socks. He's a fine, early bisque-head Bye-Lo Baby ... ready to bring sunshine into your home! [ CONDITION... ]- Beautiful antique condition, from a non-smoking environment. No bad smells--including the body, clothing, and doll blanket. - He has celluloid hands, with a repair to the fingers on his left hand--done by a professional doll restorer. The work is so excellently done that it's honestly difficult to figure out which hand underwent the repairs. (See photos.) - No issues with the bisque after careful examination. The sleep eyes work fine. No issues with the cloth body.- The antique christening gown has some well-executed repairs, noticeable on close examination. (See final photo.)- The antique/vintage little chair has been painted white (long ago) and shows a bit of age, but is excellent and sturdy. An excellent Bye-Lo that presents wonderfully! IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE - for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of "hair" lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc., and ... (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors - for example: reset eyes (in most cases!), repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. SO ... Any MAJOR issues -- hairline crack, total repaint, etc. -- would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. They are to be expected. Thank you.PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER. [ RETURN POLICY ON DOLL LOTS... ]It is with deep regret that -- after 14 years selling on eBay, and with 100% positive feedback -- I've had to change my return policy on dolls to "NO RETURNS, AND NO PARTIAL REFUNDS."As often happens, it's the few bad apples out there who ruin it for the rest of us. These dishonest people will buy a doll, then try to improve or restore it ... not knowing what they're doing. And then, when they realize they've ruined the doll, they return it saying it was defective. Or else they keep the doll and demand a "partial refund" based on the alleged defect -- which is another trending scam on eBay.I sell these dolls for a living so, my sincere apologies to you -- the honest majority of eBay buyers -- that I can no longer afford to accept doll returns. (Of course, shipping loss or damage is a different matter; that is fully covered by insurance.)BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT ...I do bend over backwards, attempting to disclose any noteworthy condition issues I can find or think of. But these are antique and vintage dolls -- so, please understand that they won't be in brand-new condition. There will always be some minor indication of their age, and it would be impossible to itemize every single pinhead-size stain on the outfit, or hairline scratch on the body. Please expect these types of conditions with old dolls. [Blurb required by eBay for cell phone users:] *** PLEASE VIEW THE FULL DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING. IT CONTAINS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
