BURT LANCASTER - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 09/18/1958 - HFSID 299989 BURT LANCASTER The Academy Award winning actor writes to a friend and talks about his time spent with his family in England while filming the 1959 film The Devil's Disciple. Typed Letter signed: "Burt", 1 page, 7x9. London, England, 1958 September 18. Written to "Dear Roxey:", in full: "Forgive me for not having answered your letter sooner but I have been busy concentrating on the film that I'm afraid I've neglected quite a bit of correspondence. I just received a letter from Nick today - he has been at a football game watching the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco Forty-niners. Nick's note was very cheerful, I think he is much more relaxed these days than he has been for some time. I know that news of that sort will make you feel good because I know how fond you are of Nick. My summer in England has been very interesting to say the least. Our film THE DEVIL'S DISCIPLE is coming to a close now and I expect to be home around the end of October or 1st November my children are back home now having spent two months here with me - they had a wonderful time and saw much more of England than I have had a chance to see, needless to say. Thank you Roxey for your very kind thoughts. I hope that when I get back I shall have a chance to run up to San Francisco to see you and Alice and Chuck and Irene. Give them all my love and take good care of yourself. As ever," Rugged, athletic and handsome, Burt Lancaster (1913-1994) enjoyed phenomenal success from his first film, The Killers, to his last, Field of Dreams-over a career spanning more than four decades. Lancaster starred in the classic From Here to Eternity, earning him a Best Actor Oscar nomination in 1953 for his performance and, in his beachside rendezvous with co-star Deborah Kerr, created one of the most indelible images in film history. For Elmer Gantry, he won the 1961 Best Actor Academy Award for his superb portrayal of the title character, a disreputable evangelist. Some of the other highlights of his career include Sorry, Wrong Number, Jim Thorpe-All American, Come Back, Little Sheba, The Rose Tattoo, Trapeze, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Judgment at Nuremberg, The Birdman of Alcatraz, The Professionals and Atlantic City. Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
