Load - 192kgs (425lbs)Crew 2 I designed this great little boat to make it easier to build than it's slightly larger sister, the Winchelsea 8, after feedback asking for a simplified version. It is a versatile dinghy that can be rowed motored or sailed and the plank length allows them to be cut from a standard (2.44m x 1.22m) sheet of plywood - no scarfing (joining plank sections) is required. The plans show details for building the dinghy as a rowing/motor dinghy plus full details of adding the sail rig with sail dimensions included. This dinghy doesn't have a long plywood/wood keel which I have replaced by a flat keel plank onto which an (optional) length of timber for a keel and a skeg are fitted along with stem capping to protect the plywood stem. This makes it easier to build but it is still built in the clinker plywood method - over a build frame and mould. The build mould consists of a centre support frame onto which the mould is fitted. The keel, stem and transom are then added before planking can start. However, it could be built using Stitch & Tape and we can explain how if you prefer. Once built, it is light enough to be carried by one person and transported on the roof rack of the average family saloon car (with a little help to get it up there perhaps). However, it would be easier to move it around on a small trailer. She will take a small lightweight outboard up to 2hp max (petrol) or a suitable electric outboard for motoring around your local water - a motor pad for extra strength will be added to the transom for this option. To keep weight down, there is no buoyancy built into this boat, so inflatable buoyancy should be fitted, especially when using as a sailing dinghy. Basic materials guide, 3 sheets of plywood for the hull component parts plus a few lengths if wood for the trim and build frame etc. plus a minimum 3kg (3ltr) epoxy pack and additives for fillets, paint and varnish. The building of this boat requires average DIY skills and a few basic tools. TRemember, if you need it, there is email/text/phone/WhatsApp support to help you, details are sent with the plans.
