Description: This is a vinyl transfer reproduction of the Buck Owens American Harmony headstock logo for restoring the headstock on a Buck Owens American. This is not a replacement overlay, but it is just for the logo in a rub on vinyl transfer which can be used for a new peghead overlay. We make the new overlay out of 1/8” thick basswood then glue it on the neck. Next we paint the headstock overlay white, then tape off the border. Next we paint the headstock in the Blue color. To match the blue shade I add a few drops of white and black to the blue color which tones it down to match the original color, making it more of a slightly grey/blue. Then we add the vinyl transfer to the new overlay. Once you stick it down you rub a felt block over it to bond it to the headstock. A guitar pick will also work to burnish it down if you don’t have a felt block. After the logo is installed we begin finishing over it, first with amber to tint it to match the guitar, then clear coats are added until it sands out flat. Then we buff it out and the end result is an authentic looking overlay, but isn’t made from acrylic plastic like the originals and it won’t begin cracking and disintegrate like the originals all do.
