Description: After the Soviet takeover of Saxony post-World War II, and its subsequent integration into what became East Germany, the musical instrument makers in the town of Markneukirchen became part of a state-owned enterprise. Several mergers and consolidations into the 1950s led to the creation of "Blechblas & Signalinstrumenten" Fabrik, known as B&S. This was a corporate "combine" umbrella somewhat like Amati-Kraslice, in that various parts were made in specific central plants, then assembled in feeder shops elsewhere, but under state management versus the private system of decades prior. Mouthpiece manufacturing was also part of this combine. With production deterioration due to the economic system and eventual collapse of East Germany, the organization was privatized, and purchased by a conglomerate run by Gerhard Meinl. After significant restructuring and retooling, the firm introduced its well-known versions of classic Bach Stradivarius trumpets. Mouthpiece manufacturing was outsourced to Lausmann in Nauheim for most series, with some special lines made by Josef Klier. The latter was not hesitant to say so, either! This 7E trumpet mouthpiece, a piccolo trumpet favorite, is one of the Lausmann stencils. It's similar to the Benge design of the 1970s-1980s, and has some features in common with even the Vincent Bach Mt. Vernon 7E. The B&S, however, has the largest backbore and most defined rim bite. It's interesting to see the contrast here, though Bach inconsistency might be at work again. Due to the throat shoulder, the cup depth is a bit shallower than the Bach and Blessing [Lausmann] 3C. I would recommend trying the 7E to someone wanting more upper register support than the 7C, versus going to the 3C first [and why not the 3D?]. For marching band and reasonable first-trumpet work, it's also worth considering! There are some nicks on the rim and body, along with a few light scratches on the rim exterior and shank. The silver plating is good overall, and this mouthpiece is ready to play! Sold as-is, no returns, pay within 3 days.
