Description: The Concert for Bangladesh (or Bangla Desh, as the country's name was originally spelt)[1] was a pair of benefit concerts organised by former Beatles guitarist George Harrison and Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. The shows were held at 2:30 and 8:00 pm on Sunday, 1 August 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to raise international awareness of, and fund relief for refugees from East Pakistan, following the Bangladesh Liberation War-related genocide. The concerts were followed by a bestselling live album, a boxed three-record set, and Apple Films' concert documentary, which opened in cinemas in the spring of 1972. The event was the first-ever benefit of such a magnitude,[2] and featured a supergroup of performers that included Harrison, fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and the band Badfinger. In addition, Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan – both of whom had ancestral roots in Bangladesh – performed an opening set of Indian classical music. The concerts were attended by a total of 40,000 people, and the initial gate receipts raised close to $250,000 for Bangladesh relief, which was administered by UNICEF.The Concert For Bangladesh 19711-01George Harrison And Ravi Shankar–Introduction6:081-02Ravi Shankar–Bangla DhunSarod – Ustad Ali Akbar Khan*Sitar – Ravi ShankarTabla – Ustad Alla Rakha*Tambura – Kamala ChakravartyWritten-By – Ravi ShankarSarod – Ustad Ali Akbar Khan*Sitar – Ravi ShankarTabla – Ustad Alla Rakha*Tambura – Kamala ChakravartyWritten-By – Ravi Shankar16:351-03George Harrison–Wah-WahLead Guitar – Eric ClaptonSaxophone – Jim HornVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonLead Guitar – Eric ClaptonSaxophone – Jim HornVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison5:441-04George Harrison–My Sweet LordLead Guitar – Eric ClaptonVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonLead Guitar – Eric ClaptonVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison4:491-05George Harrison–Awaiting On You AllVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison3:001-06Billy Preston–That's The Way God Planned ItKeyboards – Billy PrestonLead Guitar – Eric ClaptonVocals – Billy PrestonWritten-By – Billy PrestonKeyboards – Billy PrestonLead Guitar – Eric ClaptonVocals – Billy PrestonWritten-By – Billy Preston4:421-07Ringo Starr–It Don't Come EasyDrums – Ringo StarrVocals – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Richard StarkeyDrums – Ringo StarrVocals – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Richard Starkey3:091-08George Harrison–Beware Of DarknessVocals – George Harrison, Leon RussellWritten-By – George HarrisonVocals – George Harrison, Leon RussellWritten-By – George Harrison3:331-09George Harrison–Band Introduction2:521-10George Harrison–While My Guitar Gently WeepsElectric Guitar – Eric Clapton, George HarrisonVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonElectric Guitar – Eric Clapton, George HarrisonVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison5:171-11Leon Russell–Jumpin' Jack FlashBass – Carl RadleLead Guitar – Don Preston (2)Vocals – Leon RussellWritten-By – Keith Richards, Mick JaggerBass – Carl RadleLead Guitar – Don Preston (2)Vocals – Leon RussellWritten-By – Keith Richards, Mick Jagger2:591-12Leon Russell–Young BloodLead Guitar – Don Preston (2)Vocals – Don Preston (2), Leon RussellWritten-By – Doc Pomus, Jerry Leiber, Mike StollerLead Guitar – Don Preston (2)Vocals – Don Preston (2), Leon RussellWritten-By – Doc Pomus, Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller7:231-13George Harrison–Here Comes The SunAcoustic Guitar – George Harrison, Pete HamVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonAcoustic Guitar – George Harrison, Pete HamVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison3:271-14Bob Dylan–A Hard Rain's A-Gonna FallAcoustic Guitar – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellElectric Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Bob DylanAcoustic Guitar – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellElectric Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Bob Dylan6:081-15Bob Dylan–It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To CryAcoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellSlide Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Bob DylanAcoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellSlide Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Bob Dylan3:141-16Bob Dylan–Blowin' In The WindAcoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellElectric Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Bob DylanAcoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellElectric Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrWritten-By – Bob Dylan4:101-17Bob Dylan–Just Like A WomanAcoustic Guitar – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellElectric Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrVocals – Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Leon RussellWritten-By – Bob DylanAcoustic Guitar – Bob DylanBass – Leon RussellElectric Guitar – George HarrisonTambourine – Ringo StarrVocals – Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Leon RussellWritten-By – Bob Dylan5:241-18George Harrison–SomethingElectric Guitar, Vocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonElectric Guitar, Vocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison4:201-19George Harrison–Bangla DeshSaxophone – Jim HornVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George HarrisonSaxophone – Jim HornVocals – George HarrisonWritten-By – George Harrison6:03The Concert For Bangladesh 2005 -
