Has an extra-firm graphite lead core that’s supposed to be “2x firm graphite”. Also using California cedar wood. From the Blackwing602.com site: “Volume 2 acknowledges that art brings about change. It features a special cracked Glow-in-the-Dark design and an all-new 2X Firm Graphite specially formulated for this release.” I saw the YouTube video by Wall Street Journal ( https://youtu.be/y8J_nYQge14 ) and I knew I needed to have some for myself! They aren’t cheap, so I buy boxes of 12, list some of them for sale and keep some of them for myself. My review of the Blackwing pencils: Overall I love it! I can’t say why, I don’t have a logical reason why, I just do. So, chalk sort of scrapes on a chalkboard. A regular pencil scrapes along paper in a similar way. The Blackwing has wax mixed in with the graphite, so there is less of that scraping, and it’s a more smooth experience. And I find the lowered resistance makes for less hassle when I’m writing. And I like it. I really do like it. .-)
