Description: Black Sphinx for solo marimba - Leander Kaiser - Copyright 1997 - in excellent condition. Purchased in the late 1990s when I was majoring in music in college and has been in a box in my closet since 2003. There is highlighting on the pages, but otherwise is in excellent condition. Black Sphinx by Leander Kaiser was composed at the beginning of 1997. The piece is divided into two sections. The slow introduction is played with very soft mallets. The allegro should be increasingly strong, to depict the Greek myth of the resurrection of the Sphinx. The piece was written for the 1997 Percussive Arts Society Competition (in which in won 1st prize) as well as for a CD of works composed and performed by Leander Kaiser. Number of players - 1 Difficulty - Grade 5-6 Instrumentation - Marimba [4-mallets, 4 1/2 octave (low F)]
