Black Lace Day Caps Mourning Caps 1860's Civil War Era Style Cap in 3 Styles

Description: 1860's style woman's black lace day caps. The caps are available in three designs: long lappets, short lappets and self-fabric or lace trimmed. I have identified the caps by their design. The cap you see is the cap you will receive. All of the caps shown can be worn for all stages of mourning, and also to match your outfit. All of the caps are new and each is one of a kind. Such caps were worn by married women, often as a sign of motherhood, never worn by young girls. They are made with a drawstring in the back to form a bag to contain the hair. The face is framed by lace trimmed lappets, lace or fabric bands, which are decorated with detachable ribbons, which can be easily changed to suit your dress. To be true to the period your hair should be "dressed" and not loose in the cap. Older ladies often favored such caps to cover a thinning hair line. Many widows continued to wear black for years beyond the typical mourning period and such caps were worn by older women well beyond the time they were fashionable. Caps were worn indoors during the day but also could be worn outdoors under a bonnet. The caps are washable, I recommend removing the ribbons before washing. The lappets are decorated with simple bows of black double faced satin ribbon with matching ribbon roses. Cap #2: Fine, ultra sheer net fabric edged with floral design scalloped edge 1 1/4" wide lace. The lappets and band are decorated with narrow ruffled, scalloped lace. The lappets are decorated with simple bows of narrow black velvet ribbon. Short Lappets Cap #3: Net lace with delicate sprays of flowers and leaves. The face edge of the cap is edged with 2" wide floral patterned scalloped lace scalloped lace. The back edge, the band and lappets are edged with narrow ruffled and scalloped floral patterned lace. The lappets are decorated with loops of narrow, white double faced satin ribbon.Cap #4. Soft, sheer net. The cap is edged with 1 3/4" wide floral lace with a ruffled edge. The lappets and band are edged with 1 1/4" wide ruffled, rose patterned lace. Bows of narrow black velvet ribbon decorate the lappets. Ruffled#5: Sheer net lace with scattered oval designs, the face edge of the lace is designs of scallops with large roses in full bloom. The face is framed with a gathered, fluffy row of sheer floral lace which to forms a dainty frill. The sides of the cap are decorated with puffs of black satin ribbon tied in lover's knots with a matching rosette of gathered black satin ribbon. #6: Lace with designs of circles made of dots with spokes. The face edge is set with rose patterned ruffled 1" wide lace. The face is framed with 6" wide ruffle of floral pattered scalloped edge lace, the sides are decorated with narrow black satin ribbon puffs tied in lover's knots and set with a black satin ribbon flower.
