Black African American Cloth Rag Doll Handmade Folk Art Primitive MCM

Description: Old Handmade Rag Cloth Doll made from various vintage fabrics & materials including screen print metallic cotton, flour sack tea towel fabric, linen, vinyl, seersucker, glass seed beads, bugle beads, sequins, buttons, metal finding hoop earrings, …crochet lace trim, woven satin or sateen black fabric for cloth body, and what looks like rayon tassel string for hair. Doll has many layers or petticoat skirts using various heavy fabrics to give it full body. the silver trim is a sturdy thin polyvinyl fabric flexible type, it’s stretchy and durable not crinkly. Most parts are machine stitched other than the facial accents and or detail trims along waist, jewelry and head scarf. Doll measures approximately 14” to 16” tall & long from top of head to bottom of skirt laid out flat…bottom of skirt spans out approximately 20” across laid flat. As to the age my guess is it’s from the 1950s or 1960s possibly, but I do not know for sure. Doll is in good clean unplayed with condition showing minimal signs of display wear or tear. I see one rust spot type blemish to feed Sack fabric under skirt. The vinyl is used on the sleeve cuffs, shoes and bottom hem of the dress. The striped fabric is heavy duty woven cotton fabric, the red & silver silk screen printed cotton has trees and antelope design. Most underskirts are heavy grain sack or old tea towel material, there is also an Irish linen with crochet trim, and lightweight white seersucker cotton with purple bias trim. Cotton underpants are medium weight and have ric rak trims to sides. The black fabric used for the body is a durable type more common to evenings bags or linings…whoever made this put a lot of thought and work into it. There is also a somewhat floral chintz type cotton fabric to an upper underskirt. The face is made using glass seed beads & buttons, the Beads to her lips have flat sides. There are also antique gold bugle beads with red mylar plastic sequins to her necklace. The gold hoop earrings are a metal findings with sequin accents to top where they attach. Some of the metallic color to red sequins has flaked off, and or small bits may be missing, Please see pictures for further details item shown is actual item you will receive.
