Established American artist BH Brody is a colorist and a contemporary landscape painter. Her strengths are in color, form, texture and contrast, creating vivid, striking canvases. In the artist's own words: "I love colour, dream colour - it is breakfast to me! Everything influences my work. If I were to pick what inspires me the most, it would be nature and humankind's landscape coupled with my innate ability and desire to create. I have always been captured by the sky - it is pure magic to me. Simple things like the color of a fresh peach, flower, or the light on a field. I love studying artists I admire; their techniques, palettes and images can be quite stimulating. I absorb it all inside for another time. "Living in this lush rural valley surrounded by small mountains out my back door never fails to fill me up, as are many other parts of the country I travel to. I often get into the car and drive with no destination in mind, breathing in the views as I go and following a beautiful and sky. Those moments are wonderful and bring me back to the studio refreshed. Occasionally I photograph the landscape to document a curve, heft of the land, or a lone tree. The photographs, however, never quite have the impact of that captured moment. "As a book-lover I often read about painters I admire, and I also find myself pulled to the writings of the American Indians and their relationship with nature and spirit. I rarely lack for ideas. Ideas, to me, are just part of who I am. I guess one could say I am having a 'love affair' with my work and nature. "Inspiration comes from my heart, my core, the world around me, reading, seeing, studying and reminding myself that all I need to do is, 'touch the materials' and I'm off and immersed in my work world once again. My art is my play and sustenance! I feel blessed that it is my livelihood."
