Description: bf93 # This silk moth is a beautiful Specimen that is nicely displayed in a glass dome with a wood base! It is surrounded by preserved flowers, ferns, and other natural elements including a real ladybug and snail. This would be a great addition to any collection or also great for educational purposes! This display is approx. 6 1/2 x 4 1/2". ( I have also added a few other small common moths as a bonus but not sure how they will travel.) Species: Reared Polyphemus Silk Moth Antheraea Saturniidae Antheraea polyphemus, the Polyphemus moth, is a North American member of the family Saturniidae, the giant silk moths. It is a tan-colored moth, with an average wingspan of 15 cm (6 in). The most notable feature of the moth is its large, purplish eyespots on its two hindwings. The eyespots give it its name – from the Greek myth of the cyclops Polyphemus. The species was first described by Pieter Cramer in 1776. The species is widespread in continental North America, with local populations found throughout subarctic Canada and the United States. The caterpillar can eat 86,000 times its weight at emergence in a little less than two months. Check us out! Wings and other small parts are easily fixable and you should be aware that you may have to fix (glue) a part when purchasing items like these. These are natural specimens and can contain a flaw or two like a shorter antenna or broken or missing leg. We do our best to make sure they are close to perfect but a few might get by us although usually the flaw is minor and something that does not deflect from the beauty of the insect itself. I rarely have a problem but even with good packaging it is impossible for us to Guarantee that specimens will arrive totally intact although I have had very few problems to date. If you pay for Priority mail your items will be covered by postal insurance which will cover any damage in shipping-First class does not cover damage as it is not insured. The post office does now require you to bring the item in for inspection to receive postal insurance payouts. Your refund/discount will be processed once the item is presented at the post office. If free First class shipping is offered and chosen it does not include insurance. If you want your item insured in case of damage in shipping please choose Priority Mail, that includes $100. worth of insurance. Returns are excepted, please contact us ASAP if you would like to return the item. Return shipping to be paid by buyer. NOTE: If your item is in a glass dome please be aware that the domes are NOT permanently connected to the base.
