Description: This is not only an amazing Hollywood Regency make up vanity tray It also came from the home of Bette Davis from when she lived in Cape Elizabeth Maine with her husband Gary Merrill. Gary Merrill was a long time local of Maine and was well known in the Portland area back in the 1940s and 1950s. My grandfather George Samuel was a cab driver in the 1950s until the 1970s. My grandfather got to know Gary Merrill as he was a regular in his cab. My Grandfather described Gary as a great guy who woud often wear a kilt around Portlanr. Gary Merrill would phone the cab company and request my Grandfather. My Granfather had a real dynamic personality who told great jokes. One day( 1950s) Gary Merrill hired my Grandfather's cab to bring him from Portland to the home he shared with Bette Davis in Cape Elizabeth, ME. According to my Grandfather when he and Gary arrived some sort of redecorating was being completed in the mansion by Bette Davis. Several items were in the driveway and were being discarded by a few workers. When Gary went inside the house my Grandfather asked the workers if he could have what they were throwing out and he wad told to help himself. My Grandfather than proceeded to take some of the items. Included in these items was this plant stand. My Mother can still remember the day he brought these treasures home from work. I believe it is cast iron or some sort of heavy metal . It is in good antique condition. Shows some wear from age. I am not sure of the goldtone spackle in the mirror is wear or part of the piece. It kind of gives it a petina.
