Small folio, 1 page, August 31, 1950 Hecht was hired by Goldwyn to "bring life into the still-borne picture...doctoringa film that had already opened was practically unheard of, but Goldwyn hiredCharles Brackett and Ben Hecht..." (see Scott Berg's Goldwyn book, pp. 452-453). Edge of Doom was originally released on August 2, 1950. Goldwyn pulled the filmafter poor reviews, replacing director Mark Robson with director King Vidor andadding a new prologue by writer Ben Hecht. The new version premiered in New Orleans on September 27, 1950. Starred Dana Andrews, Farley Granger, Joan Evans, Robert Keith and Adele Jergens. Condition: very good Ben Hecht was an American screenwriter, director, producer, playwright,journalist, and author. Was one of Hollywood's and Broadway's greatest writers. 165 film and television writer credits, 7 director credits, 8 producer credits. Won an Academy Award for Best Original Story for Underworld (1927) at the firstAcademy Awards in 1929. With his frequent writing partner, Charles MacArthur, he won his second Academy Award for Best Original Story for Scoundrel (1935). Nominated four more times. Will always be remembered for his screenplays for such movies as The Front Page (1931), Scarface (1932), Wuthering Heights (1939), Notorious (1946).
