Description: Assorted Hardneck Garlic Bulbil Grab Bag In this package you will receive 1/4 oz of assorted Hardneck Garlic Bulbils,( over 150 bulbils) suitable for planting. Our Mixed Garlic Bed was established several years ago when we dug a trench and planted a handful of random bulbils for Garlic Greens". Over the years, the unused greens matured into beautiful full sized garlics that we harvest for personal use. Because Bulbils are sweet, tiny, (baby) garlics, in the making, the Garlic Fairy finds it emotionally impossible to discard them and fervently hopes to find them a good home with a fellow garlic lover, who is capable of giving these seeds the TLC they deserve. Growing full sized garlic from bulbils takes patience but is extremely rewarding. Unlike growing garlic from cloves which mature in one season, bulbils take several seasons to mature but offer benefits far beyond immediate gratification. Garlic bulbils are garlic seeds produced by the garlic scape (flower). Porcelain bulbils are about the size of a grain of rice. Rocambole varieties can be as large as peas. They can be planted in the fall or in the spring a great, inexpensive way to start your own garlic bed, or experiment with different varieties. Some growers believe that growing your own garlic from bulbils help the garlic adapt to your climate. Growing from bulbils may produce more robust garlic. (We got our start by growing bulbils and the resulting full sized garlic out performs new varieties we purchased as bulb stock. For us, it took a few seasons for the cloves from purchased bulb stock to get use to their new home and reach their full potential.) Garlic bulbils likely do not carry soilborne diseases so they are ideal for those worried about introducing disease problems. When they begin to grow you may want to use the small garlic bulbils in gourmet cooking. They are wonderful in salads and as topping for various dishes. This grab bag includes a random assortment of over 150 gourmet garlic bulbils, gleaned from the garlic scapes that are produced from the garlic grown in the Garlic Fairy's garden. You will receive a minimum of 5 varieties (probably more) from the list provided below. (Please Note: As a "Grab Bag", we cannot accept special requests for this listing and individual varieties will not be labeled. Each garlic bulbil is intended to be a fun "surprise" that will only be reveled as the bulbil gradually matures into a full sized garlic. Although many of the bulbils look similar, you will be treated to a variety of garlics that each have their own subtle differences in size, flavor and /or color.
