Description: COLLECTIBLE ARTWORK VINTAGE BELIEVED TO BE 1954 JOSEPH JEFFERS DODGE OIL PAINTING MATTED & FRAMED PAINTING SIZE = 13 1/2" X 9 1/2" FRAME SIZE = 21" X 17" This beautiful, original Joseph Jeffers Dodge, vintage oil painting is in flawless condition. Its contents are fascinating as they depict both collaboration & rejection, staged in the simple event of building a kite. After Dodge began using realism for his style, in the early 1950's, he implementedimpressionism to create physical appearance of people, which would give some semblance of their thoughts and actions. But it was really up to the viewer to decide their true purpose & meaning. We found this painting to be exceptionally provocative. As 2 of the boys collaboratively attach the tail of their kite, the 3rd boy appears isolated & rejected, having turned his back on the them. All 3 boys display gloomy expressions, as if they had some sort of dispute about building & flying the kite. Perhaps this painting was a reflection of Dodge's childhood, where he remembered a time in his life when he felt alienated by his friends. Or, maybe he recalled an incident in his past where he had pushed someone away, leaving them to feel hurt & rejected. This painting is an excellent example of the fact that at one time or another, all of us have experienced feelings of exclusion by people in our lives. Dodge was known for painting in a surrealistic style until around the early 1950s. After that, he converted to a more realistic content that would often impart both beauty, & the gesture of human behavior. He even served as an Instructor for the HydeCollection in Glen Falls, New York, & as the Director of the Cummer Art Gallery in Florida. Many of his paintings can be found in The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, in Jacksonville, FL, and in The Museum of Arts & Sciences in Daytona Beach.
