Description: This listing is for our early 20th Century armillary sphere, It depicts Hercules holding the globe and it is finished in its original verdigris colour. It has been in our ownership for over 20 years and we are now selling following our downsized house move and sadly it is no longer required. This Swedish made armillary sphere with copper numeric sundial and central arrow is absolutely in original, untouched condition. It was made by A.R. Aronsson, which is engraved on the base along with 'made in Sweden' and its name ‘Hercules’ - please see pictures. The sweeping delicate form of the armillary holds a copper hour band inside the celestial equator ring. Striking through the centre is a verdigris patinated arrow with a stylised feather and point. No chips or cracks in the metal and no repairs/unaltered, just natural oxidation from decades spent through all weathers in the garden. It is truly an amazing item. The piece makes a wonderful statement and a magnificent and interesting focal point in the garden. It would equally look splendid as an interior architectural work of art. The arrowhead section screws onto the main shaft of the arrow. The arrowhead shaft itself is slightly bent but we have always simply aligned best we can, rather than re-bend the thin metal. The patinated steel outer sphere is 44cm in diameter and is 12mm wide. The copper banded numeric sundial is 40cm in diameter and the band is 5cm wide. The arrow overall is 79cm Overall the structure stands 67cm tall and a rough overall horizontal width when drawn across the arrow line is 59cm. Hercules himself stands 22cm tall and the base on which he is standing is 15cm x 9cm overall. Please note that the white pillar shown in the picture on which Hercules is standing is not included in the listing. It also keeps good time ! (It was roughly 9.20 when we took the pictures - see penultimate picture). Please look at the pictures carefully as they form part of the description. Please note that the item will be well packaged for transit. The arrow head will be removed for safe transit. It simply screws back on to the end of the arrow shaft. If preferred collection in person from Pett Level, East Sussex is also available (6 miles from Hastings/near Rye). Thank you for your interest. Should you have any questions please contact us.
