Description: This is a nice, original April 28, 1944 issue of Tail Winds, a newsletter for 557 AAF Base Unit. The Seventh Ferrying group of the Air Transport Command primary objective was to ferry Lend-Lease aircraft and supplies from Great Falls, MT to Fairbanks, Alaska. From there the planes were flown by Russian pilots to the Eastern Front and used to fight Hitler’s invading forces during World War II. In June 1942, the Seventh Ferrying Group moved their headquarters from Seattle, WA to Great Falls, MT. Almost 8,000 aircraft were delivered by the 7th over 3 years. Theses newsletters documents their entire existence in Great Falls (1942-1945); showing promotions, change of command, and various goings on at Gore Field. Measures 9.5" x 12" and contains 10 pages. There is some mild surface discoloration and some minor corner and feather creasing at edges. Please study photos and Email with any question. A great addition to any collection!
