Description: Antique WWI Souvenir de France Satin & Silk Embroidered Pillowcase with Lace 25"x 25"Soldiers coming home from France after WWI often purchased gifts for loved ones including fine satin and silk pillowcases embroidered by hand. This one has a US shield and a bouquet of flowers hand embroidered in the center. The words Souvenir de France are embroidered above and below the center embroidery. Lace trim diagonally frames the embroidered section and the case is trimmed with 2" lace around the edges.There is a small run in the silk at the bottom right and the embroidered area which was done on a circle of very thin fabric does have an area that is torn. Pillowcases and other items like them were a way for the French women to both earn some money and show their support for the Allied forces.
