Description: WDC Stands for The William Demuth Company of NYC. Founded in 1862 by Wilhelm C. Demuth (1835-1911), a native of Germany, his company specialized in pipes, smoker's requisites, cigar-store figures, canes and other carved objects. The Demuth Company is well known for the famous trademark, WDC in an inverted equilateral triangle. There are no other markings on this pipe, nor on the case, to indicate when this pipe was made, but if the case is any indication, it appears to be from the early 1900's-1920's. The design with the logo on the case shows a royal crown, which was not part of the company's normal logo. Inlaid with silver (disclosure: no proof that it is silver), it appears to be a specialty pipe. The stem is no longer with us, but it appears as though it was of the screw-in variety, as spiral indentations are visible inside the stem. The pipe is in excellent condition, albeit some small scratches and scuffs. The interior bowl shows little use.
