Description: DescriptionAn Antique Walnut Campaign Writing Slope or Lap Desk,with Brass Bands and Corners and a blank Brass plaque on thje top and matching Lock plate.The Desk opens up to reveal the Original Leather Gilt tooled writing surface with an Ebonised surround.Above the Leather slope there are spaces with two Glass Inkwells, a shaped Pen Tray, a Stamp slope and a lidded Compartment. In front of these there are numerous compartments with shaped dividers for letters etc.Below the front of the slope there is a sprung panel which when activated reveals three Secret Drawers. There are spaces front and back for papers etc. There is a full length drawer to the side of the Desk. There are inset Brass Carrying handles on the sides, one of which doubles up as a side Drawer handle.Good Quality Desk.Good Colour.Original Condition.Mid 19th Century. ConditionAge related wear. The Original Leather with a split in the middle and a loss where the lifting tag once was. A sliding brass section of a securing catch missing. The Pen tray and Stamp slope with old repairs. The compartment lid with some wear. Linen tabs on the secret drawers worn.The mechanism for the sprung panel complete but is temperamental. The locking bolt and intricate brass cover missing.
