Description: "Picturesque Canada" was a 14 part subscription publication printed by the Art Publishing Company in Toronto, Canada in the late 1800's. Each volume was illustrated with black-and-white engravings of important Canadian centers, peoples, flora, fauna and landscape and natural beauty. Undated, but copyright was registered via the Copyright Act of 1875. It contains essays and articles by various Canadian writers who extol the virtues of Canada, with a special focus on Ontario and Quebec. Illustrations include those hors-texte and even full-page plates. 13 1/4" x 10 1/2" pages. Edited by George Monro Grant (1835 - 1902) of Queen's College, Kingston. Canada's Parliamental Archive web-site notes that the present item was "one of the most ambitious topographical works of its time.
