This piece is a stunning example of Victorian craftsmanship, featuring intricate details and hand-painted accents that make it a true work of art. The mirror is adorned with a carved crest, showcasing an oval pale jade green hand-painted patera depicting a classical cherub, surrounded by a border of leaf tips above a gilt drapery swag. This is flanked by demi-lune foliate ears, adding to its regal appearance. The central mirror plate is set within a molded and inlaid frame, complemented by four dish-top display shelves. Narrow mirror plates flank the central mirror, bordered by inlaid pilasters topped with gilt bronze classical female busts, and supported by dog’s head corbels at the base. The sides of the case are concave, each featuring two additional round shelves with floral marquetry panels of ebony and incised carvings. The base of the mirror is also concave, with a molded shelf above a simulated drawer that boasts a central ebonized, gilt, and foliate carved cartouche within a decorated panel, all resting on a molded plinth. This breathtaking piece exemplifies the height of mid-Victorian design.
