Description: ABOUT THIS ITEM: Victorian Ad Booklet written and illustrated by Palmer Cox, entitled "Rhyme & Reason" advertising Clark's O.N.T. spool cotton thread,made by Clark Thread Co., Newark, N.J. Palmer Cox (1840 - 1924) was a Canadian illustrator and author best known for his series of books and comic strips about imaginary little sprites he created and fondly referred to as "The Brownies." The first time "The Brownies" appeared in publication was 1879. This booklet is believed to be published in the late 1880's....measures 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" ...sewn in pictorial paper wraps. It has 12 pages, including the wraps.The front and back wraps have colored chromo-lithographs. There are four black and white lithos and four sepia lithos inside. Each page is a 4-line verse describing the virtues of a spool of O.N.T. There is some staining on the front, back and inside. There is some very faint writing on the top of the front wrap. There is also a tear on the back wrap. The sewn binding is correct. For being 135 years this booklet is in amazing condition. This is another item from my Mother's toy and doll collection.
