Description: Antique Silver Plate Footed Scallop Shape Serving Dish by E. G. Webster & Son ca 1900, MB572. Elizur G. Webster of Brooklyn, New York, partnered with his son Fred in 1886 to continue the silver-plating business he had created decades earlier. Elizur died in 1900, but Fred continued the business (and the stamp seen on the base of "E G W & S") until it was sold to International Silver Company in 1928. The Webster Company was known for the high quality of their silver plate wares, as is evident in this genuinely dramatic, footed serving dish which measures over 10" long and 8" wide and stands 2" tall. Fluted and scallop shaped, this was a special order item and bears the coat of arms on its handle of the original purchaser; the insignia of its manufacturer appear on the underside. The dish is in overall very good condition with no dents or bends and only minor surface wear appropriate to its age and use. CHRONOLOGY E.G. Webster 1859-1864 Webster & Dupree 1864-1865 E.G.
