This salter balance is marked - Salter's Letter Balance, Made in England The brass face plate measures approximately 1" wide by 3.5" long, not counting the hook and hanging loop. Richard Salter established the Salter Company in 1782 in West Bromwich England, making pocket steelyards. By 1825 his nephew George had taken over the company, which became known as George Salter & Co, manufacturers of bayonets, scales and spring balances.
