Description: For your consideration is an antique print of the original etching by William Monk of the The Bear and Billet in Chester 1892. The print has the signature of Monk at the bottom as it would have in the etching. William Monk made etchings for the Monk's Calendar starting in 1903 and the last one was in January 2000. His etchings were a labor of love and were in production for 97 years. The calendar was invented by William Monk but was not his idea. William Monk supplied etchings for the Oxford Almanack in 1902, 1903, 1904 and 1905. He was born in Chester in 1863 and was the son of a gunmaker. He continued to supply etchings for the calendar until his death on April 8, 1937. One of the prints that I have shows the framer as Wm Forbes. The only mention I could find was that William Forbes (a framer) died on July 8, 1874. It is possible that the prints that I have were original prints for the calendar and that the framing shop was still framing after William Forbes death. These are antiques as can be seen from the back and hard to find. Total size is 17 1/2" x 24". I do have 2 of these prints, so make sure to check out the other one I also have listed. Please email with any questions.Check my other listings, stop by my store, and make sure to add me to your favorites as I list new items frequently. Thanks for looking.30,6,24 Almost all of my items are acquired from estates, garage sales or auctions.
