Description: This stunning, antique redware jug, measuring 13 inches in height, features hand-painted floral and scenic designs on two sides — one side featuring gorgeous flowers and scrolls, and the other has a beautiful mountain/lake/trees scene, both are very well-painted, and the condition of the paint is in very good condition considering its 100+ year age. You can see the buttery yellow horizontal brush strokes all around the jug. The top part features an abstract, brown design edged with scrolls, and it has a large spout and handle with a smaller spout. The base is also painted with the same brown. You can see that the jug is Redware on the bottom, as that part is unpainted. The talented artist is, I believe, from Russia or the former USSR, judging by the last name. With the curvy letters and signature marking (painted), it is a bit hard to decipher the actual letters, but if you look closely at the photo, you can get a better idea of the artist's name. This jug is an original piece from the late 19th century/early 20th century based on similar jugs in that time period. The jug's style is so beautiful, while being primitive at the same time. The only discernible condition issues, and this tiny amount of damage is rare with a piece of hand-painted Redware this old, are a few small chips along the main pouring spout, a few minimal areas of paint fading and chipping of the paint, as well as a small chip that has been painted over on the edge of the base. It is quite an exquisite jug, and it will be a star standing alone. The jug is made of redware material and is a pretty large size, measuring at 13" H x 8" L/W. It weights 3.42 pounds. The jug's region of origin is Europe, specifically Russia/USSR. This large redware hand-painted jug is a unique addition to any collection and is sure to impress. Just beautiful!
