Description: Offered is this beautiful antique oyster plate. This one is marked with the numbers 3547/97 on the back. My reference book states that these "turkey design" plates were very popular and Haviland produced and exported these to a variety of American import firms. This one has the Burley company of Chicago import mark on the back. The Chicago Antiques Guide says 'Burley and Company was founded in 1884, but had been previously known as Burley and Tyrell before that, and had advertised themselves as the largest importers of china and glassware. They ordered from some of the best manufactures of the day including Minton, Haviland, Copland-Spode and others. In some cases they commissioned items exclusively for Burley & Co.' which is why it is not marked with the company that made it. It features flowers and leaves in three different sections and has 5 wells for oysters. It is in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks. It measures 8.5 inches in diameter. This will look lovely in any room of your home. Be sure to see my other oyster plates.
