Description: LISTED Mary Brooks OLD ImpressionistMountain Lake Oil PaintingMary Mason Brooks (1860-1915) This special sale features an eclectic group of old & vintage expressionist, modernist & impressionist paintings & original his painting was originally purchased from a major auction house.Careful attention to the atmospheric conditions, loose, but deft brushwork and a pleasant composition are only a few of this wonderful & old oil painting's qualities. The combination of these qualities captures the beauty and peacefulness of a European mountain lake!Mary Mason Brooks is the listed American author of this oil painting. Brooks was born in Salem, Massachucetts, in 1860. She was born into an old and well-connected Salem family, grew up on Lafayette Street, and her father was the long-time Secretary of the Essex Institute who also published quite a few antiquarian pieces over his long career.Brooks studied art in Italy and France. After leaving Europe, she returned to Salem briefly and maintained a studio and school in the famous "Studio" at #2 Chestnut Street among her fellow Salem artists. Not content, she was off to Boston and then Jamestown, Rhode Island by her early 30s. Brooks had both family and friends in Jamestown, located right over the bridge (then ferry!) from Newport, where an artists' colony was emerging.Brooks's career was successful, which included exhibiting in New York and with the Boston Art Club, before passing away in 1915, in Jamestown, Rhode Island.Today, Brooks's paintings are well sought after by collectors and have been sold be several major auction houses!ITEM DESCRIPTION:This oil on black paper board measures 17-5/8" by 23-3/8" with its' frame. The actual painting measures 12-1/4" by 18-1/8" and is signed (monogrammed) by Brooks, on the lower right. Please note that an unknown, inexpert conservator over cleaned the monogram which has caused parts of the letters to become faded and missing:(The painting has minor, stable crazing and parts of the painting that have been over cleaned, which account for about 10% of the painting's total surface area. Otherwise, the painting is in very good, overall condition. The 3" wide and 1-1/2 deep frame is in good condition and was added (new) within the past 10 years. When examining the painting under the ultraviolet light, I found no evidence of inpainting. Brooks's monogram is original to the painting and does not fluoresce under an ultraviolet light.Good luck on becoming the winning bidder of this old oil painting by listed American artist- Mary Mason Brooks!OTHER INFORMATION:I try to provide the best customer service possible.
