Description: ARTIST: Johan Neumann is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times. He was trained by his uncle Carl Neumann and like him excelled in marine scenes. He is known to have been to Iceland in 1892 and in general to have lived a rather secluded life. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a pleasing rendering of a small fishing community with a few boats anchored near the shore and a small pier reaching into the ocean. Behind the boats is a small, whitewashed house and fishing nets. On the back of the frame are 2 old auction stickers from the best Danish auction house “Bruun Rasmussen”, which indicates that this painting have been sold at auctions a couple of times. I’ll date it to somewhere between 1890-1910. Signed: “Joh. Neumann” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 40,5 cm/15.9" * 28 cm/11". Without frame: 35,5 cm/14" * 23 cm/9". CONDITION: The painting is in good ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
