Description: Lovely antique Nippon/Japan IE & C Co, celery tray - circa late 19th century. Made of porcelain, this lovely piece features relief, overglaze, gilded scrolls, pierced “handles” and hand-painted floral decorations. Condition: Wear to gilt and decorations. Typical scratches and use related marks corresponding with age. The wear is expected considering the age of this piece. Wear on the rims and underside. I haven’t noticed cracks or repairs. Minor scabbing on the rim and foot area is possible but there is nothing major or notable. No large chips noted. Production related imperfections. Marked with Nippon IE & C mark. This piece was produced during the “Nippon Era” 1890-1921. When The McKinley tariff act was implemented in 1890, all export goods had to be marked with country of origin. Japanese wares of that period were marked “Nippon”. After 1921 all Japanese wares were required to use “Japan” instead of “Nippon”.
