Description: Very rare collection of photographs! This lot includes (30) Cyanotype photos and the original envelope from Kodak Eastman NY. Also included are 10 additional photos/ cabinet cards. Total of 40 photos in this lot. The cyanotypes are all 4”x5” in size. The Cyanotype photos are taken in Thousand Island Park New York at the Columbia hotel sometime around 1893. We have been able to narrow the date because the hotel was enlarged from what you see in our photos in 1893 according to the Bethlehem Heritage Society (see last couple listing photos ). The hotel burned down in 1912, so you can imagine original photos are pretty rare, especially original photos from before it was added on to. We also were able to identify the family in the photos, and specifically, some of the people by name. When we acquired the lot of Cyanotypes, the previous owner also gave us a stack of cabinet cards, and other photos that are of some of the same family / people, and some of them have names written on the back. They are the Drechsler family of Baltimore Maryland (which makes sense because we acquired the lot from an old house less then an hour outside Baltimore). We have provided comparison photos. You can even see that Lottie Drechsler is wearing the same skirt in one of the cabinet cards that she’s wearing in the Cyanotype! This is a great piece of New York / Baltimore history and at the same time a great insight to the life of a family in the late 1800s. Please message us with any questions!
