Description: A wonderful c 1850's Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt, ENTIRELY HAND PIECED using worsted and batiste wools. The Dark is made of 1" pieces of thin black wools, and the Light is made of 1" pieces of thin brown heather wools. There are over 700 pieces in this quilt which measures 76" x 74" with a brown heather border and bright red wool centers, binding and frame. The back is a floral cotton. The maker used a running "stitch in the ditch" basting stitch to hold the front to the back in brown thread, which is almost invisible on the back, and there is no batting. The quilt has scattered mothing throughout and old repairs as shown. This quilt comes from an old collection. Take a look at the other exceptional clean quilts in our store.
