Description: Rare (and another unlikely to show up again) is this wooden grain/spice mortar with a distinctive carved handle and beautiful rich patina. Mortars such as this one were typically carved from large branches or tree trunks to make a piece large enough to grind sufficient quantities of spices or grain. Origin is likely India, Pakistan or Afghanistan from the late 18th or early 19th century. The mortar measures approximately 12 inches high and has an 8 inch diameter. It also measures approximately 9.5 inch from handle to edge of spout. The item is an antique and is sold as is. The item may show wear, fading, scratches, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. I note that the carving is crude, as you would expect, and that the mortar has a crack and a chip to base, as shown in photos. Also, handle appears to have old repair as shown in photos. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing. No returns or refunds.
