Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Antique Japanese Satsuma Tea Set - Taisho Period - Early 20th Century 1912-26 Being offered for your consideration is this antique Satsuma Tea Set. The tea set consists of 14 pieces and is missing the covered sugar bowl. Included in this set are the teapot with lid, the creamer with lid, five cups and five saucers. Each piece is decorated with lovely spider chrysanthemums. This tea set has been previously used by its former owners. Most of the pieces have some gold wear to the handles, rims, spouts, and some of the gold highlights on the flowers. There is uneven discoloration or darkening to most of the pieces in some form or another. The teapot has a small chip under the foot ring and the lid on the creamer has a chip under the lid. We have shown most of this in the photographs. The pieces are marked on the underside. From our limited research, the mark appears to be Bizan under the Shimazu family crest. If this is correct, it would date this set to approximately 1912 – 1926, made during the Taisho Period. Buyer should do their own research to satisfy and determine if our information is correct. This is a lovely set and still displays very well! Please take the time to carefully examine all the photographs for more details. Contact seller if you have any questions or if you require additional photographs for inspection. Measurements: The Teapot stands approximately 5.5” in height to the top of the finial and measures approximately 7” from the spout to the back of the handle. Front to back of the teapot’s body measures approximately 4.25” in diameter. The Creamer stands approximately 4” in height to the top of the finial and measures approximately 5” from the tip of the spout to the back of the handle. Front to back of the creamer’s body measures approximately 3.25” in diameter. Each Cup measures approximately 1.75” in height and measures approximately 4.5” from the back of the handle to the opposite side of the cup and 3.75” front to back of the cup at the rim. Each Saucer measures approximately 5.5” in diameter and 5/8” in height from the table to the top of the rim. The tea set weighs approximately 4 lbs prior to packaging. All measurements are approximate, but close. Condition: We carefully examined each piece. As mentioned in the description, there is gold wear to most of the pieces in some manner. The teapot, creamer, cups, and saucers all exhibit some wear; mostly on areas that normally would be handled. Most of the gold highlighting the flowers still remains intact, though some areas have a little wear. The earthenware shows signs of previous use such as discoloration, stains or darkening of areas around the teapot, cups and saucers. There is a small chip under the foot ring of the teapot and a chip under the lid of the creamer. Except for the lids, all pieces appear to have a mark on the bottom by the maker.
