Description: Maker: Purchased at the estate sale of an elderly antiques dealer, the quality of this beautiful Imari cake plate or large under plate is unmistakable. The pattern number 1954 is handwritten in red on the back along with a red crown mark that appears to be a back stamp of the Davenport factory of Longport, Staffordshire, England. Davenport was an important factory, producing top quality and highly coveted goods. It was in business from 1793 to 1887. Design: The pattern is a classic blue and red Imari with elegant and distinctive gold handles. Davenport produced a number of very similar Imari patterns with different numbers, including 1292, 2614, 3545 and 6060. This plate would be compatible with most or all of them. Many top quality factories also produced very similar Imari designs, including Royal Crown Derby. Size: The plate is 9 7/8 inches wide between the handles, 9 1/8 inches wide at the center and 1 3/8 inches tall. The center indentation - where a dish would sit if this is an under plate - is 3 7/8 inches wide. The plate weighs 1 pound. Condition: The plate is in overall excellent condition with no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, stains, discoloration or significant wear. There are many light utensil marks in the center and light wear to the edges of the indentation. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
