Description: Here's a very old, probably mid-19th century, Hewing Axe. It's maker-marked twice, J.R.KNAPP. John Knapp was a blacksmith in VT-NH, born in 1838 and dying in 1906 in Waterbury,VT. Axe head has 10.75" cutting edge. Some of the forge welds are showing cracks. As found patina and rust from many decades in storage.
