Washington Works Sheffield England Original design by Colonel James Bowie I*XL Knife Blade measures 9 3/4".This beautiful knife is fitted with thick Stag Horn scales. 9-3/4" Bowie Blade and measures 15" in overall length with a Brass guard.Complete with presentation frame lined in green felt and a news clipping of this knife stating, “In the 1830’s Jim Bowie ordered several knives like this one from the George Wostenholm firm in England. Note the trademark “I*XL” which is on all Wostenholm cutlery. This one has stag handle.”George Wostenholm (1800-1876) came from a line of cutlers going back to the mid-1700s. George is actually George III and is the Son to George Jr. (1775-1834) who started the George Wostenholm & Son partnership in 1825. The son George is the cutler that spearheaded the Wostenholms to the head of Sheffield knife making and help increase knife sales in the United States.Good used knife, some pitting present - what is happening to the carbon steel. All parts are tight with no play. No sheath. Excellent condition stag scale. Weight - 1lb 5.6 oz.
