With box storage, it is ideal for use in the hallway or kitchen. It originated from a rural property in Staffordshire, northern England. The Georgian oak settle comprises a supportive high back, with a moulded top rail and six solid oak panels, interspersed by pegged, moulded rails and stiles. The ends of the Georgian kitchen oak seat bench are decorated with pronounced scroll sides, which run from the top rail down to the seat. There are also elegant internal shaped arms, set within the sides of the traditional kitchen bench itself. The single panel solid oak hinged seat, which incorporates a cut-out handle, opens on its hinges to reveal large internal storage area – ideal for storing shoes! The front of the box seat features three solid oak panels, interspersed by pegged moulded stiles and rails. The floor of the settle incorporates later pine floor boards. The Georgian wooden bench boasts a lovely warm mellow colour and patination. The Georgian oak settle frame has been constructed in the traditional manner with pegged and joined construction, incorporating moulded stiles and rails in-between the solid oak panels. It is unusual to see Georgian oak high-back settles of this narrow size; they are usually wider, which makes this oak bench highly desirable. This Georgian oak settle would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway or kitchen, in either a traditional or contemporary setting. This oak bench would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it’s an extremely functional item. Condition Report: This is a fine quality antique English late 18th century Georgian oak settle, from the George III period, circa 1780, which measures 3ft 9” wide, displaying a warm mellow colour, in excellent condition. With box storage, it is ideal for use in the hallway or kitchen. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frame, sides and seat, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The seat lid hinges are in good working condition. There is no lock present on the box settle. The floor of the settle incorporates later pine floor boards. The oak settle has been cleaned and French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore, the finish and colour are of an excellent standard.
